No less than twice, he affirmed that he clearly understood himself and knew what he wanted. The guy has plans for himself and knows how to aim for the goal. The feelings that arise with Elio are one of the rare times Oliver feels controlled by his heart. His confusion and struggle with reason create the character’s internal conflict.

The image of the main character duo is clarified through each development, being close and creating sympathy, especially in the scene where Elio calls Oliver by his name and vice versa. The film’s dialogue is a combination of three languages: English, French, and Italian, of which Italian accounts for more than half of the time. In English sentences, the characters use Italian words of address such as “signore” (sir) or “caro” (dear) to help make the tone more charming.

With the Italian context, lyrical landscapes appear in almost every exterior scene. The rays of sunlight from the blue sky were captured beautifully in the frame, becoming the backdrop for the love story of the two characters. The suburban countryside – where the Perlman family is located – appears simple yet poetic with gardens and meadows. Bustling cities like Crema and Bergamo still retain their ancient features with stone-paved buildings and outdoor cafes. Scenic spots such as Lake Garda and Serio waterfall also show off their stunning beauty.

After I Am Love and A Bigger Splash – two quality films that did not achieve satisfactory results, director Luca Guadagnino can happily close the trilogy of works with the theme of the desire to be loved with Call Me by Your. Name. The filmmaker succeeded in conveying a simple message. Love does not differentiate between opposite sex or same sex, there is only one – sincere, selfless love, stemming from feelings with anyone who brings us deep sympathy and connection.
