Hawaiian Shirt Amazing Hot Dog Funny
According to the book The Great American Hot Dog Book: Recipes and Side Dishes from Across America, the name “hot dog” comes from a cartoonist and sportswriter for the New York Evening Journal named Tad Dorgan. In 1901, Tad Dorgan attended a baseball game in New York. While sitting in the stands, he saw a man selling hot dogs shouting: “They’re red hot! Get your sausages while they’re red hot!” (Temporarily translated: It’s hot! Buy the sausage while it’s still hot!)
But for some reason, when he saw the hot dogs, he immediately thought of the Dachshund – a small dog breed in Germany with short legs and a long body like a hot dog. Being a cartoonist, Tad Dorgan immediately drew a caricature of a Dachshund dog and a hot dog.
The advertisement still echoes in my head: “They’re red hot! Get your sausages while they’re red hot!” so he signed “hot dog” below his caricature. Since then, his easy-to-remember and easy-to-call name has been used and become popular.
Another story says that the name “hot dog” originated from a group of people selling sausages imported from Germany. According to language expert Webb Garisson, about 100 years ago, people used to sell hot dogs on most streets in America. At that time, people often heard sellers proclaim: “hot, hot” to invite customers to buy sausages, so this dish was often shortened to “hot” by Americans.
Some time later, sausage sellers began selling sausages imported from Germany, called “frankfurters”. This type is so named because the person who started importing this type of sausage was from Frankfurt, Germany. Due to being imported, Frankfurters became more expensive than previous American sausages, so people here nicknamed this imported sausage “doggy” – a shortened form of saying: ” to put on the dog” – means expensive. Therefore, people called frankfurters “doggy hots” and later changed to “hot dogs” for ease of calling.
The origin of the name “hot dog” is still a controversial topic, because each story has its own basis, but do you admit that enjoying “hot dogs” is very delicious? right?
