Academy Awards 2023: Everything Everywhere All At Once leads the nominations

The 95th annual Academy Awards nominations were revealed on Tuesday morning, and it appears that a genre-defying comedy-drama set in the multiverse will be the big winner at the ceremony in March.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” received the most nominations for best picture, best director, best actress, best supporting actress, best supporting actor, and best original screenplay. It was the most nominated, receiving 11 in total.

All Quiet on the Western Front, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” each received nine nominations. “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the two biggest blockbusters from 2022, were also up for best picture.

At the time of nominations, the 10 Best Picture nominees for this year had a combined domestic box office haul of $1.574 billion, making them the highest-grossing group. The 2009 nominee slate held the record with $1.52 billion at the time of their nomination.

On March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Jimmy Kimmel will preside over the Oscars ceremony, which will be broadcast live on ABC. This year’s ceremony is sure to draw more attention after Chris Rock was struck by Will Smith during last year’s ceremony.
